Newspaper Articles Worldwide

Updated 17.7.2014 This page introduces various articles published in the mainstream media worldwide cornerning the extraterrestrial phenomena and space exploration. Mostly the bigger newspapers, but also some online papers from the entertainment business. The articles are in English as well as other languages. The links to these articles may at some point expire, and some of the links take you to older articles of a newspaper that may not even exist anymore.
This list is chronological with the oldest articles on top. There will be no translation - this is just a service provided for both English-speaking and non-English-speaking countries. Article links are followed by  name of paper, country of publication and the language concerned. Suggestions for new links are warmly welcome.
All the titles are original -  partly reflecting the societal atmosphere at the time of publishing. Some of the articles are subcription based (SB) - to be able to read further, you need to be a subcriber of the newspaper/magazine, or purchase the article. But these too are included for the sake of an overall picture. The largest newspapers and online media go here without country label: BBC(UK), China Daily(China), Der Spiegel(Germany), El País(Spain), HLN(Belgium), Le Monde(France), MBL(Iceland). The American newspapers have no country labels. Below you have the different language labels.
DAN - DUT  - ENG - EST - FIN - FRA - GER - ICE - ITA - JPN - NOR - POR - RUS - SPA - SWE-

In order to better manage the increasing volume of data, there is now an individual page for the decade after the new millennium, and individual pages for each year beginning the year 2010. Chronological order is kept throughout. To pick your chosen language, look for language label after the newspaper title.

Tycho

Updated 12.1.2014 Crater Tycho is one of the most prominent features on the near side of the Moon - so named after the 16th century Danish astronomer Tycho Brahe. The crater is only around 110 million years old, and its relatively young age has left its features sharp. With its diameter of 86 kilometers (53 mi.) it is easy to spot with the naked eye. When we look at the Moon closeby,  like in Google Earth Moon, it is sometimes all too easy to forget the scale of things that we see. It would take you actually an hour to drive through the crater if there was a paved road there, and think how many houses and other buildings you would be passing by on a regular countryside road here on Earth. There would be empty spots here and there, and a concentration of houses at many places. It does seem something like that on Tycho!

TYCHO IN GOOGLE EARTH MOON
Open Google Earth Moon, and see how close you can get to Tycho! First it is all blurry,  but then it becomes a lot more sharper, and in the end you get very close to the Tycho surface. And you have a lot of surface to look at! Over 5000 km2, (some 2000 square miles). Well worth your time exploring! Almost no matter where you look, you can find lunar anomalies. It is hard to believe that it would be just random pixels that we see!

LUNAR MISSIONS TO TYCHO
Lunar Surveyor 7  - the seventh and last lunar lander of the American unmanned Surveyor program landed near the north rim of  Tycho at 40.9° south latitude, 11.4° west longitude, on January 10, 1968. Contact was lost on February 21, 1968, but before that Surveyor 7 managed to take over 21,000 photographs. All seven Surveyor spacecraft are still there on the Moon.
The Surveyor program proved that landings on the Moon surface were possible. And in early 1970, as NASA engineers rejected the Tycho region as being too rugged for an Apollo landing, some scientists still hoped that Apollo 16 or 17 might be diverted to Tycho. But in the end, this never happened.
The Surveyor 7 landing site is not clearly seen in Google Earth Moon as it is outside the sharp area, some 29 km (18 mi.) from the rim of Tycho.

TYCHO ANOMALIES
As you view Tycho on Google Earth Moon and get a real close look at it, the surface seems backed with anomalies. What seems to be thousands of square shaped buildings in alignment with each other  - as this video by user bluebeard2011 so well explains: YouTube:Real reason Nasa never went back to Moon(26m53s) - square and rectangular buildings built in north-south-east-west direction, and infrastructure with streets, buildings and external things that look like farms. Wonder what NASA pictures - if they were all released - would show us?
YouTube user Streepcap1 did discover something interesting in an original NASA photo: what looks like an alien base built into the side of the mountain as Scott Waring points out.
There is another interesting YouTube video, Is this a Tycho Crater Spacecraft?(57s) by Streetcap1 that shows what really seems like some sort of spacecraft. Don't know the coordinates, but that is something to look into for instance. And here are also some interesting coordinates: 42.39 S -12.52 W
UFO Digest 's Kevin Smith wrote an excellent article on Tycho in 2012 with the title The Tycho Facility which is certainly worth reading.

PHOTOS AND VIDEOS OF TYCHO
These days anyone with a good set of telescope and camera can take good enough pictures and video of Tycho. The central peak (see picture below) is close to 2 kilometers (1.24 mi.) high and some 15km (9.3 mi.) wide, and even there are things to be seen - but more so in the surrounding area. It's a fascinating study!

NASA's own
The photo of Tycho at http://wms.lroc.asu.edu/lroc_browse/view/M181286769  from January 2012 is a good study, especially with good photo software and together with Google Earth/Moon. LROC NAC view looking from west to east of Tycho crater - 4700 meters deep and with the central peak 2000 meters high. And here is the LROC 'home page' on Tycho. Comparing the LROC picture with the Google Moon, the GME North should point toapproximately 2100 hours. Zooming then on GME to the 'bay area' (around 43°24'S and 11°38'W), you can see lots of rectangular designs that look like buildings. What about the LROC photo? There you need the software to see beyond the 'boulders'!

Space Beings Are We All

It has always amazed me how prevalent is the lack of logical thinking when it comes to the extraterrestrial issue. Since we do live on one of the planets of this solar system, we too live in space. We too are space beings as the word for extraterrestrial translates in many languages. If we think that our planet Tellus is dot xA127 in  a giant system of dots where another dot, aY374, far far away from us, has no idea of our existence, but has an elevated sense of the probabilities and possibilities, who's to say that our dot with less elevated sense has even a miniscule monopoly on defining possible existencies of others? We are space beings same as they, living in this vast universe that may in fact consist of multiverses and several layers of time. An Australian ant without wings has probably never seen a member of different species that resides in the Americas. You wouldn't expect it to be aware of it either, but just living happily its life. As do we humans. But we do have higher intellect and far broader means to communicate - we should know better, or at least strive to.

Even a so-called expert in his own field may deign to tell an expert in another field that "I can guarantee you that there is no such thing as UFOs." That sort of thinking - whether it really is thinking - is nothing short of dumbfounding.

PS. The picture above is from an 1888 book by Camille Flammarion called "L'atmosphere: meteorologie populaire", and was engraved by "Anonymous". "Urbi et orbi" means "To the City (of Rome) and to the World", and was a standard opening of Ancient Roman proclamations ("peace to this city and to the world"). This picture left a lasting impression in me as a child, and made me want to also peak outside, to see what's beyond. That quest still persists. And I want to share it with you.

Saturn - Facts and Theories

Updated 12.11.2013 Saturn, the sixth planet from the Sun,  has been known about since prehistoric times, and was for a long time considered to be the outermost planet in our solar system until the discovery of Uranus in 1781. Saturn appears to the naked eye in the night sky as a bright, yellowish point of light. Most people will require optical aid (very large binoculars or a small telescope) magnifying at least 30× to clearly resolve Saturn's rings - discovered in 1610 by Galileo Galilei.

Diameter: 120,536 km  - 9.44 times that of Earth
Distance from Earth: Varies daily. As Earth and Saturn  move along their orbital paths they move nearer and further in comparison to each other. The distance is anywhere between 1.2 billion km (roughly 7 AU) and 1.67 billion km (around 11 AU) - when the planets are on opposite sides of the Sun (one billion is in European terms milliard).

SATURN'S MOONS
Saturn has at least 150 moons and moonlets, 53 of which have formal names. Titan is the largest, and also the Solar System's second largest moon - larger than the planet Mercury and the only moon in the Solar System to retain a substantial atmosphere. Rhea is the second largest moon. Some of the moons seem to be helping to keep the Saturn rings in place.

Titan
According to Calgary Herald, the Cassini spacecraft has found small amounts of propylene, a chemical used to make storage containers and other products, in the atmosphere of Titan. Titan is among the few bodies in the solar system with a significant atmosphere made up of hydrocarbons.

Enceladus
Saturn's moon Enceladus, 14% of our moon in size, was discovered by William Herschel in 1789. Enceladus has always been thought of as one of the more remarkable members of Saturn's marble bag of satellites. For one thing, it's dazzlingly bright, reflecting light like a mirror. This is because its surface is covered with ice crystals. Enceladus is not the only moon in the solar system that is home to such a feature. Jupiter's Europa is even more certain to contain a global ocean of its own. On both worlds, organics plus water plus warmth plus time could be more than enough to get biology going.
Time: NASA's Cassini Space Probe Finds New Saturnian Ocean

SPACE MISSIONS TO SATURN
First flyby of Saturn was in September 1979 by Pioneer 11. In November 1980, the Voyager 1 probe visited the Saturn system. Voyager 2 passed by Saturn in 1981. In June 2004 Cassini–Huygens space probe conducted a close flyby of Phoebe (a satellite of Saturn), studied the system extensively, and on July 1 of that year it entered into orbit around Saturn. Includes a Saturn orbiter and an atmospheric probe/lander for the moon Titan called Huygens, which entered and landed on Titan in 2005. The probe's mission was extended to September 2010 and then again to 2017, to "study a full period of Saturn's season".

THE RINGS OF SATURN
Saturn is probably best known for the system of planetary rings that makes it visually unique. The rings extend from 6,630 km to 120,700 km above Saturn's equator, average approximately 20 meters in thickness and are composed of 93% water ice with traces of tholin impurities and 7% amorphous carbon.

Doug Webber writes in his blog how Bob Dean had discussed some huge UFOs in the rings of Saturn caught in Voyager pictures. This caused the scientist Norman R. Bergrun to publish a book entitled The Ringmakers of Saturn, in which he theorized that these huge cylindrical ships were making the rings of Saturn! But Bob Dean says the opposite is more likely: they are mining the rings of Saturn. And you could quite easily believe that if you look at the videos in Webber's blog. Incidentally, the Cassini-Huygens probe began orbiting Saturn in 2004 and its mission was supposed to end in 2008, after 74 completed orbits around the planet. But instead of ending it, NASA decided to extend it for another 2 years, and in 2010 another 7 years. Perhaps the interest in Saturn's seasons is less of a factor than the desire to know more about possible mining? Time will tell.

Circumference: 10,921km (equatorial)
Diameter: 3474km (about 1/4 that of the Earth)
Distance from Earth: The average distance from Earth to the Moon is 384,400 km (238,900 miles). So if you could drive a car along an imaginary freeway to the moon, and you drove 100km/h (62mi/h), it would take you around six months to get there. So far, and yet so close! And as we all know, the Moon and Sun appear the same size seen from the Earth, so that under certain circumstances it is even possible to mistake one for the other.

MOON, SUN AND EARTH
The Moon is unique among natural satellites in that it experiences a stronger gravitational attraction to the Sun than to its primary, the Earth. As a consequence, its path is always concave to the Sun. It could almost  be argued that this makes the Moon a planet, orbiting the Sun, rather than a satellite of the Earth. Anyway,  here is a good animation of the interaction of these three.
A nice explanatory video Physical Science9.2b states: "As the Earth spins, the Moon appears to rise and set. And the spinning of the Earth is a more significant factor in the appearant motion of the Moon because the Moon goes completely around the Earth once a month, but it rises and set every day as the Earth rotates, or just about every day."

Craters, maria and the mapping of the Moon
There are roughly 300,000 craters wider than 1 km on the Moon's near side alone, and apparently the battered, densely cratered other side is even worse in this respect. The crater Tycho is perhaps the most prominent of these, clearly visible on the near side (there will soon be a separate article on Tycho in this blog). Quite interesting things to be seen there... But whatever we will some day find there or anywhere else on the Moon, please visit first the excellent Kelso's Corner to see how the Moon was mapped!

MOON LANDINGS
The Soviet Union's Luna programme was the first to reach the Moon with unmanned spacecraft in 1959. First manned Moon landing was of course on July 20th, 1969, and first moonwalk by Apollo 11 astronaut Neil Armstrong on the 21st. After that first landing there has been five more, with the latest in 1972 by Apollo 17. Only unmanned landings after that - officially.
Many of us ask why haven't  we built a permanent base on the Moon. Perhaps the answer really is, as proposed,  this simple: it is already occupied, and we are not welcome there. There will soon be a separate article here called This Side of the Moon - about UFOs seen flying around, to and from the Moon, and other things we can see there.

FAR SIDE OF THE MOON
a.k.a. the dark side. Tidal forces from Earth have slowed down the Moon's rotation so that the same side is always facing the Earth. Most of the other side is never visible from the Earth. First photographed by the Soviet Luna 3 probe in 1959. The far side has a battered, densely cratered appearance with few maria, and according to some theories, alien bases.

NASA's Lunar Orbiter program managed to map some 99% of the Moon's surface in the 1960's. Lots of images taken of course, but as air brushing does occur, most people get to see only what we are allowed to see. Luckily  there are original photos/videos that show us more. Near Zeeman Crater for example there is/was a huge alien structure (video courtesy by UFOs Now) that looks like a hangar of sorts with a perfect rectangular slot. Where the structure used to be, there is now a quite poorly done air brushing that doesn't even try to imitate the surrounding texture.

Karl Wolfe
Sergeant Karl Wolfe was in the Air Force for about  4 years, 1964-1968. In 1965 while working at a NSA facility in Langley, Virginia, he was shown photographs of the Moon (taken that year by the Lunar Orbiter) that showed detailed artificial structures. So these photos were taken prior to the Apollo landing in 1969. He was told that recent enhanced images of the Moon had surprisingly, yet clearly shown structures on the surface of the dark side of the Moon. Structures that definitely were not created by natural means, such as meteors, or ancient collisions with other heavenly bodies. The structures were created by intelligent beings. - Disclosure Project(2m13s) - Examiner - UFO Casebook -

Structures on the Moon
Besides the structure on the far side of the Moon, there are socalled Moon anomalies on this side as well. With today's technology anyone really gets to have a better look at the Moon than just a few years ago, and so perhaps in the future it will be quite impossible to keep such secrets. But there are also old pictures that haven't been air brushed - in old books that UFO researchers can look into like Scott Waring, author of  UFO Sightings Daily, has done. So if you can get hold of Lunar Orbiter Photographic Atlas of the Near Side of the Moon, check there pages 265, 278 and 281.

Neil Armstrong had once told an associate that once they stepped out of the lunar module on the moon, they were literally surrounded by ET vehicles at the Sea of Tranquility. But though he too had to keep a lid on the truth, there is evidence that something like that might have taken place. The much-talked-about Tower on the Moon can be seen with a good telescope (see below) - and shadows tell a tale!

Cameras and telescopes to use
They're not cheap, but still affordable for many of us: a good set of camera and telescope (that usually comes with a tripod). A tripod is of course a must since it is impossible to hold the camera or telescope still enough to get a good picture/video. And there is always the interference of the atmosphere that makes the task difficult - it wobbles all the time and it makes videos filmed from Earth blurry, no matter how much magnification one has.
Anyway, here are some combos in practice:

GOOGLE EARTH MOON
To get the Moon in Google Earth, find Moon in the Planets. And then start zooming in! You can get suprisingly near in some places, e.g.here 30°58'12" N 146°11'05" E - or 31°01'07" N 145°24'38" E - NW of Mare Moscoviense on far side of the Moon. See those oblong things? What could they be? Then again, you see just blurry things almost everywhere on the near side. Why is that? Nevertheless, with your own telescope, your only censorship is the atmospheric interference - but you can't see the far side...

THE HOLLOW MOON
but the original one’s from the 1960′s clearly show this object in this video.

Hollow Moon
There is this wild idea that Moon is actually not a natural satellite with crust, mantle and core, but an artificial one. It is thought that a) the Moon's formation process produced a hollow sphere through natural means. Some proponents of this view maintain that the Moon is not exceptional, but that all planetary bodies are hollow. The b) theory is about the artificial Moon. The scientific community considers both sub-theories to be entirely unsupported by evidence.
