Fear of the Unknown

 Let's face it: fear is a factor in accepting the reality of extraterrestrial life.

Even a UFO enthusiast who is dying to have a UFO sighting him or herself, might think twice - or thrice - about welcoming an opportunity to come face to face with an alien being. We may get a scare just meeting with a stranger in the woods or even on a busy city street - for it is only natural to feel most comfortable with the most familiar, and the least comfortable with what is least known. So to face something totally unknown to us that clearly seems otherwordly, would surely be for most of us a totally shocking experience, and one which we in hindsight might want to be without. Totally and absolutely without.

Of course, once the unknown would become more known, more common, the fear factor would change. It would become less and less shocking to encounter an alien lifeform, and with increasing media exposure the social scene would expand to involve such encounters. But until that happens, the fear alone makes sceptics of some of us, and indifferent of the rest of us who haven't got any experience to back up the knowing - or an open mind to accept that which hasn't been witnessed yet. To accept another's reality may be hard even with ordinary stuff, let alone the extraordinary or the otherwordly. And since the UFOs are most probably flown by someone, the mere idea of the existence of alien crafts poses a psychological threat. And fear breeds aggression, scorn and ridicule. That's what we just have to contend with - the rest of us.

And when they do appear, they may not be as kind and childlike as in the above picture from Close Encounters of the Third Kind - but a bit scarier and demanding of their own space here on Earth. This Side of Moon & UFOs

Updated 27.11.2013 Our constant companion, the Moon, is fascinating to look at! Some of us simply never get tired of it! It is especially rewarding to watch with a good set of binoculars, or preferably a telescope. And with a good camera ready to take some shots or video! And in order to have a good and steady view and get sharp pictures you must have a tripod of course.
This page will have links to videos and photographs taken and kindly provided by ordinary citizens and some professionals as well. Some of them are simply amazing - and with some there are doubts about the authenticity. This article deals solely with the possible/already proven alien presence on the Moon, and presents photographs and videos taken where we can discern something that we either clearly can call a UFO or at some instances (perhaps) man-made satellite or probe.

When Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin landed on the Moon in July 1969, HAM radio operators receiving the VHF signals picked up this conversation (screened by NASA from the public):
Mission Control: "What's there? Mission Control calling Apollo 11."
Apollo 11: "These babies are huge, sir ... enormous....Oh, God, you wouldn't believe it! I'm telling you there are other space craft out there... lined up on the far side of the crater edge... they're on the moon watching us." - ThinkQuest -

For all the secrecy, it might be worth your while picking up that telescope, and keeping an eye on the Moon. Who knows what interesting things you might be able to see! And in case you can film and share it with the rest of the world, even better! Sooner or later these things won't be a matter of ridicule, but of wonder and amazement.

HISTORICAL SIGHTINGS
Strange things have been observed on and around the Moon, even long before the space age.
1671 The French astronomer Giovanni Cassini reported seeing a white cloud hovering over the lunar surface.
1787- Two astronomers report seeing lightning above the lunar surface.
1877 A streak of white light across the Moon was observed for more than an hour.
1915-0423 A beam of light is seen inside the Clavius Crater - the third largest crater this side of the Moon - YouTube:AlienMoon(8m49s)
1953- A science editor of the New York Herald Tribune reports having seen a 12-mile long structure, possibly a bridge, on the edge of the Mare Crisium Crater. This structure could have been caused by volcanic activity. British astronomers Dr. H.P. Wilkins and Sir Patrick Moore both confessed that the so-called bridge had just popped up from nowhere. Ali, Muhammad (1942-) Boxing champion Muhammad Ali claimed to have spotted UFOs on numerous occasions. One sighting occurred while he was jogging in Central Park in New York City. He looked up into the sky to see a glowing, bright light which appeared to move until it was directly in line with him. His manager, who was with him at the time, didn't see the light. Bowie, David (1947-) The Brittish musician always had a fascination for extraterrestrials. Cronkite, Walter (1916-2009) In the 1950s, Walter Cronkite was invited to a Pacific island with other reporters to observe an Air Force display of their new missile. As it launched, according to Cronkite, a flying object in the shape of a disc hovered in the sky. The UFO later fired a bluish beam towards the missile but it also hit an Air Force security personnel and his dog. The security guard, the dog, and the missile froze in place after the beam hit them, reports say. The reporters, in shock, were told by a colonel that the Air Force has been working on a new technology and wanted to test how people will react when they see it in action. Cruise, Tom (1962-) Scientologist Tom Cruise believes in aliens and even went as far as constructing an $11 million bunker to protect himself and his family from an alien invasion. Fenty, Rihanna (1988-) American vocalist. Has always been interested in the UFO phenomenon, ever since she as a little girl used to watch the sky for UFOs. Has recently employed the services of a professional "skyscanner", who reports to her his sightings over the Nevada nightsky. Rihanna is convinced that UFOs will turn up during her lifetime. Ford, Glenn (1916-2006) Never really believed in UFO’s until one day in 1974, he was staying at a Southern California beach-house and saw two large discs hover over the Pacific Ocean. They hovered for a few minutes than sped off at a ninety-degree angle. - Examiner -
Gleason, Jackie (1916-1987) The man behind The Honeymooners became interested in UFO’s in the 1960’s and also became close friends with President Richard Nixon. According to Gleason’s wife (and The National Enquirer...) Hendrix, Jimi (1942-1970) On several occasions during his career, UFOs just happened to show up while Jimi Hendrix was giving a concert. During the last days of his life, he performed on the rim of an extinct volcano in Maui. UFOs were also sighted over the volcano by people who called in to a local radio show. A cameraman on the set said that he fell from his perch after seeing a UFO through his lens. Lennon, John (1940-1980) On August 23rd, 1974 Lennon walked out on to the balcony of his New York apartment, dressed in his birthday suit, and witnessed together with then girl friend May Pang what he later described as a "Flying Saucer" hovering closely, just above his window. Lennon became so completely fascinated by the event, that he talked incessantly about the incident, and even included the encounter within two different songs on different albums. Shatner, William (1931-) Once told an acquaintance that he had a bizarre UFO experience while riding his motorcycle with friends in the Mojave desert in 1969. He had crashed, become disoriented and his friends mysteriously lost track of him. He claimed to have seen some kind of shadowy apparition beckoning him from the edge of the horizon. Astronauts and UFOs

Afanasyev, Viktor (1948-) Russian cosmonaut. A space veteran of three long-duration missions, he has logged over 545 days in space, and 7 EVAs totaling 38.55 hours. He says: "I think we are not alone, something of extraterrestrial origin has visited Earth. The alien craft turned towards ours, followed us, and flew formation 25 to 29 metres away. We photographed the metallic engineering structure that was 40 metres long. The film was later confiscated." But he made a drawing of the object. - UFO Casebook -
Akiyama,Toyohiro (1942-) Journalist, and the first Japanese in space. 8 days aboard Mir where he made live reports each day documenting life aboard the station. 

Aldrin, Buzz (1930-) 2nd Person On The Moon. Pilot of Gemini 12 in 1966 & Lunar Module Pilot of Apollo 11 in 1969. Reticent about the UFO issue. But during the flight Gemini XII he and James Lovell spotted two UFO's approximately 1/2 mile from the spacecraft. They were observed for some period of time and photographs were taken. And then of course during the Apollo Moon landing in 1969, it is said that they were literally surrounded by UFOs. Timothy Good writes that HAM radio operators receiving the VHF signals directly picked up the following message which was screened by  NASA from the public.

Armstrong, Neil (1930-2012) 1st Person On The Moon. Command Pilot of Gemini 8 in 1966 & Commander of Apollo 11 in 1969. If he and Aldrin really did see extraterrestrial crafts on the Moon and then just had to keep quiet about it, that would explain Armstrong's reclusive nature and public reticence in describing his personal experiences there.Why tell anything when you can't tell everything?

Bolden, Charles Jr. (1946-) A veteran of four space flights, logged over 680 hours in space between 1986 and 1994. Pilot of STS-61-C (Columbia/1986) and STS-31 (Discovery/1990), and Mission Commander of STS-45 (Atlantis/1992) and in the first US/Russian Shuttle-Mir Program STS-60 (Discovery/1994).

Borman, Frank (1928-) Orbiting The Moon. Command Pilot of Gemini 7 in 1965 & Commander of Apollo 8 in 1968. The first to fly around the Moon. Borman saw, together with James Lovell onboard Gemini VII, something that perhaps after all wasn't anything alien, according to ATS. But on Christmas Day 1968 onboard Apollo 8 he and co-pilot Lovell are reported to have witnessed a UFO (a "Santa Claus"), also the day before. Cernan, Eugene "Gene" (1934-) 11th Person On The Moon. Pilot of Gemini 9 in 1966 & Lunar Module Pilot of Apollo 10 in 1969 & Commander of Apollo 17 in1972. Cernan became - officially - "the last man on the Moon". In January 1973 he said in a Los Angeles Times article: "I've been asked about UFOs and I've said publicly I thought they were somebody else, some other civilization".

Gibson, Robert L. (1946-) Five missions: Pilot of STS-41-B (Challenger/1984) and Commander of STS-61-C (Columbia/1986), of STS-27 (Atlantis/1988), of STS-47 (Endeavour/1992) and of the third Shuttle-Mir Program STS-71 (Atlantis/1995).

Glenn, John (1921-) Pilot of Mercury 6 in 1962. Became the first American to orbit the Earth, and is also the oldest person to fly in space, aboard the space shuttle Discovery (1998). Conservative views about UFOs which always rhyme well with political ambitions. But in his guest appearance on Frasier (Mar2001), did he or did he not, disclose? Maybe, probably. He did ask the people on "Frasier" to let him be a guest on the show. Thus maybe cleverly finding a way to tell the truth without really risking anything.

Gordon, Richard F. Jr (1929-) Orbiting The Moon. Pilot of Gemini 11 in 1966 & Command Module Pilot of Apollo 12 in 1969. Onboard Gemini 11 together with Charles Conrad  they report to Mission Control that their craft was being observed by a UFO estimated at being about six miles away.  
Grissom, Virgil (1926-1967) Pilot of Mercury 4 in 1961, Command Pilot of Gemini 3 in 1965 & Command pilot of Apollo 1 in 1967 - killed at launch.
Hadfield, Chris (1959-) Canadian astronaut. Mission specialist on STS-74 (Atlantis 1995) and STS-100 (Endeavour 2001). He also spent almost six months onboard ISS as part of Expedition 35 (Soyuz 2012).
Haigneré. Jean-Pierre (1948-) French astronaut. Two missions to the Russian Mir space station (1993 &1999). During the latter mission he took this interesting photograph! Although no official statement has ever been released concerning the mystery object, it has been suggested by some that the anomaly is nothing more than a reflection of a water droplet from inside the Mir.

Lovell, James A. (1928-) Orbiting The Moon. Pilot of Gemini 7 in 1965, Command Pilot of Gemini 12 in 1966, Command Module Pilot of Apollo 8 in 1968 & Commander of Apollo 13 in 1970 (the unlucky flight). Lovell saw a UFO together with Frank Borman onboard Gemini VII in 1965. Lovell also witnessed an incident during flight Gemini XII in 1966: On November 12 both astronauts are reported to have spotted 2 UFO's approximately 1/2 mile from the spacecraft. They were observed for some period of time and photographs were taken. And then during the flight of Apollo 8 in 1968, as the command module emerged from behind the moon Lovell transmits "We have been informed that Santa Claus does exist!". This occurred on Christmas day so many believed it was just Lovell's sense of humor for the kiddies watching the broadcast - but many  speculate that it was the use of the code word originally employed by Walter Schirra on the Mercury 8 flight. Shriver, Loren (1944-) Pilot of STS-51-C (Discovery) in 1985, Commander of STS-31 (Discovery) in 1990 and Commander of STS-46 (Atlantis) in 1992.
Slayton, Deke (1924-1993) The docking module pilot of the Apollo–Soyuz Test Project in 1975. He became the oldest person to fly in space at age 51 (that record has since been broken).

Strekalov, Gennadi (1940-2004) Veteran of four space missions (1983, 1984, 1990 and 1994). "On the last two flights (Soyuz TM-10  & Soyuz TM-21 / Mir EO-18 / STS-71) I saw something. During the flight of 1990, I called Gennadij Manakov, our commander, to come to the porthole - but we did not manage to put film in the camera quickly enough. We looked on Newfoundland and the atmosphere was absolutely clear - suddenly a kind of sphere appeared. Beautiful, shiny and glittering - I saw it for 10 seconds - it disappeared. Walker, Joseph A. (1921-1966) NASA test pilot. He filmed five or six UFOs during his record breaking fifty-mile-high flight in April, 1962. It was the second time he had filmed UFOs in flight. On May 11th he said that one of his tasks was to detect UFOs during his X-15 flights. But none of those films have been released to the public for viewing. In 1963 he made two X-15 experimental rocket aircraft flights beyond the altitude of 100 kilometers - at the edge of  outer space. These were the first spaceplane flights past that threshold, thus qualifying Walker as an astronaut. - Syti - Wiki -

Wang, Yaping  (ca1980-) The second female taigonaut in space as a member of the Shenzhou 10 spaceship crew, which orbited the earth in June 2013. She told school children through a live video feed system that "through the front windows, we can see the Earth and many other stars, but up till now, we haven't seen any UFOs".

Wetherbee, James (1952-) Pilot of  STS-32 (Columbia 1990) and Commander of  STS-52 (Columbia 1992), STS-63 ( Discovery 1995), STS-86 (Atlantis 1997), STS-102 (Discovery 2001) and STS-113 (Endeavour 2002). The final three missions were dockings with Mir and the ISS. Jim Wetherbee is the only American to have commanded five missions in space.

White, Edward (1930-1967) Pilot of Gemini 4 in 1965 & Senior Pilot of Apollo 1 in 1967.  The first American to walk in space. Witnessed together with James McDivitt a UFO during Gemini 4 flight. Killed at launch of Apollo 1 in 1967.

Worden, Alfred M. (1932-) Orbiting The Moon. Command Module Pilot on Apollo 15.

Explanations Ad Infinitum

Updated 20.12.2013  Here are some of the most common and most ludicrous explanations by outsiders as to what witnesses of UFO sightings must have seen or heard - instead of the real deal. Some of the explanations may hit the point, but most simply don't, but rather are products of fearful and/or closed minds. A UFO sighting is usually such a powerful experience that the person immediately and automatically goes through, while experiencing, an internal checking and double checking before arriving at the definite conclusion: I know what I saw! Hardly any witness takes a sighting - and the analysis of it - lightly, but it is for many a profound and possibly life-changing experience. Thus a later, superficial 'analysis' of it by total outsiders really doesn't have - and should not have - any value. Here are anyway some examples of such 'explanations'. We who do believe/know or have seen/heard/experienced could take these as just something amusing to read if it wasn't for the - triteness...

THE CRAFTS
Roswell crash in 1947 brought this brilliant interpretation of the event: "it was just farm machinery. Maybe a trailer, and the lights and noise were from tractor". Depending upon the shape of the UFO - circular, cigar-shaped, diamond, triangle, rod - a UFO could be instead:

LIGHTS

People have reported seeing white, yellow, red or blue lights, or any mixture of those colors. And the lights can be steady or flickering, and in the shape of beams, or be spreading allover. The lights can seem to emanate from a solid body/craft, or appear as separate from anything solid, and changing in shape and position. No matter what kind, these lights could instead be, according to sceptics:

SOUNDS
Most witnesses say that UFOs don't sound - that they quietly fly or hover in the sky. Still, an argument can be made by the skeptic that what you thought you heard was instead:

PS. My personal experience started with a sound as there was initially no visual perception of anything unusual going on. Or if no sound was actually heard, it was vibrations in the air that caught my attention. Since sound is a mechanical wave that is an oscillation of pressure transmitted through some medium (e.g. air), composed of frequencies which are within the range of hearing, the pressure can be sensed as vibrations even if no sound is 'heard'. ALIENS
A somewhat tougher question, and one which perhaps frustrates the most - the inability of most anybody to believe that one really has encountered an extraterrestrial being. But these too can be explained away as:

SCEPTOLOGY

Actually logic is often quite far from the mind of someone ready to dismiss the experiences of another as something less valid or as downright lies. It seems rather that there is a lot of ignorance, fear and intellectual arrogance involved. These are oftentimes people who wouldn't believe themselves if they saw something extraordinary, but would be too easily persuaded to dismiss their own experiences. So how could they respect those of others? Scepticism is a personality trait, not to be confused with logical reasoning.

Mare Moscoviense

Updated 24.1.2014 Mare Moscoviense resides on Moon's far side - one of the few maria on that side, at approximately 27.3 N and 147.9 E. With diameter of 277 km (172 mi.), the size of the area is about  40,000 square kilometers. There are four larger craters there, all named after cosmonauts: Komarov to the southeast of the mare, Titov in the northern region, Tereshkova to the west, and Belyaev to the south.
To get the feeling of the area, look at this wonderful video Mare Moscoviense Flyover provided by JAXA. Makes you almost wonder why provide this service and all this clearly non-airbrushed surface to look at  since there is so much of muddled view on the other side! Especially since we wouldn't be able to see this side by any earthly means - i.e. with a telescope.  

LUNAR ANOMALIES AT MARE MOSCOVIENSE

When you go to Google Earth Moon and start zooming in on Mare Moscoviense, you don't see much anything first. But as you get closer, you start seeing things in earnest! You do need to get to eye altitude 10 km and lower.

This is of course a very large area. The distance from north to south is 265 km (164 mi.). But when you get real close, those white oblong things that are allover this area appear quite long, around 100 meters long. What are they?! There are literally tens of thousands of them and those white dots allover this Sea of Moscow and the surrounding area! This video (18m23s), uploaded by user adityasite, gives a good picture of the anomalies. And this one by  bluebird2011(10m15s)! But even better go there, to Google Earth Moon, yourself and have a look! Thank you NASA, Google Earth & Co. for this service! And thank you for not air brushing this area yet.

Belyaev crater resides south of Mare Moscoviense straight opposite Titov in the north. At approximately 22d42m41s N and 142d34m47s E you will find a V-shaped formation on top of a smaller crater. The sides of this formation are about 90 meters long, and let's hear user adityasite(1m40s) explain further: " From what I can see, this is a 100% perfect V shape consisting of 7 small white orbs estimated to be 8-10 meters in diameter. With the ruler tool on google moon, a rough estimate suggests the whole formation is around 145m in length. The odds of a structure this geometrically perfect happening naturally must be next to impossible". Similar shapes are found also elsewhere in Mare Moscoviense.

Huffington Post wrote an article about this in January 2014 - based on Youtube user wowforeeel's video on this lunar anomaly. And there is yet even more interesting, almost shocking, news in Turner Radio Network and Sunny Skyz! (updated here Jan 24th). Would the seven-dot formation be the craft that NASA had been tracking for months, and last year found landed on Belayev?! 

Or are they just individual pixels from a low resolution image as Metabunk thinks? NASA's LADEE detection in December 2013 of something very large and very different from anything "lunar"  would contradict that! Three NASA rockets were possibly launched January 13-15 in 2014 on a classified Department of Defense Mission.
