Science Fiction Movies


Updated 4.2.2014 There are plenty of scifi-movies made to entertain and shock the audience. Good, even brilliant, films, but nevertheless mainly action and thriller. The following chronological list is of scifi-films that deal with space, UFOs, extraterrestrials, crop circles and the like, and which leave you with a sense of wonder and awe, and pondering what might be. The links take you to the IMDb, and the storylines depicted here are IMDb's own.



2001: A Space Odyssey (1968) Humanity finds a mysterious, obviously artificial, object buried beneath the Lunar surface and, with the intelligent computer H.A.L. 9000, sets off on a quest.

Close Encounters of the Third Kind (1977) After an encounter with UFOs, a line worker feels undeniably drawn to an isolated area in the wilderness where something spectacular is about to happen.  
E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial (1982) A troubled child summons the courage to help a friendly alien escape Earth and return to his home-world.
Starman (1984) An alien takes the form of a young widow's husband and asks her to drive him from Wisconsin to Arizona. The government tries to stop them.
Cocoon (1985)  When a group of trespassing seniors swim in a pool containing alien cocoons, they find themselves energized with youthful vigour.
Fire in the Sky (1993) An Arizona logger mysteriously disappears for five days in an alleged UFO encounter in 1975.

 

 
 
Signs (2002) A family living on a farm finds mysterious crop circles in their fields which suggests something more frightening to come.
Moon (2009) Astronaut Sam Bell has a quintessentially personal encounter toward the end of his three-year stint on the Moon, where he, working alongside his computer, GERTY, sends back to Earth parcels of a resource that has helped diminish our planet's power problems.
Prometheus (2012) A team of explorers discover a clue to the origins of mankind on Earth, leading them on a journey to the darkest corners of the universe. There, they must fight a terrifying battle to save the future of the human race.


Oblivion (2013) A veteran assigned to extract Earth's remaining resources begins to question what he knows about his mission and himself.
Europa report (2013) An international crew of astronauts undertakes a privately funded mission to search for life on Jupiter's fourth largest moon. - Time, spoiler alert -
Gravity (2013)  A medical engineer and an astronaut work together to survive after an accident leaves them adrift in space.
