Ways and ways to hush them up

Updated 29.1.2014 We are living exciting times as UFO Disclosure seems to be getting close. But how is it even possible that the secrecy on UFOs has prevailed year after year, decade after decade?

Simply because there are ways, and there are ways, to hush them up -  the witnesses that is! If the most obvious method doesn't work, then another one is employed. Or a third one. There are many ways to hush anyone up! This article does not even begin to deal with the role of the media, and their part in the ridiculation of the whole UFO issue (although things are improving in that regard), but concentrates only on the silencing at the individual level. This article means in no way to put any blame on the hushed-up individuals, of course not! But only point to the methods enlisted to silence people - which could be anyone in similar circumstances and position. Anything so that the monkeys depicted saying "see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil" will likewise make us state that "I didn't see anything, I heard nothing, I will not say anything". Luckily, there is a deadline even for this secrecy  - which nevertheless may have resulted in deaths for some - even if nothing can be proven.

First the most obvious - not a threat but rather an - appeal:
You are not to talk about this to anyone for it may damage national security!

If this for some reason doesn't help, various threats can be employed, especially if you are - employed: If you don't agree to secrecy, we will

cut your salary
demote you
put you on leave without pay
ostrasize you
ridicule you
send you to a mental institution
fire you
take away your pension benefits
brainwash you
alter your memories
kill you
kill your loved ones
kill your descendants

And if you are just a regular civilian:
you will get detention (in school)
you will be relegated from school
you will be fired

If these threats - some of them unuttered, yet understood - don't help, damage can be inflicted through various ways:
inflicted disease
declaring mental incompetence
appearant accident or suicide 

No matter what the method of intimidation, it has obviously been effective. To top that, there is the widespread  and highly expected self-censorship. Nevertheless, as more and more witnesses are speaking out, the veil of secrecy is becoming increasingly thinner till it one day might disappear altogether. Until that happens, civilian self-censorship may yet prove to be the hardest thing to break.
